  1. Changes from Ant 1.2 to the current sources
  2. ===========================================
  3. Changes that could break older environments:
  4. --------------------------------------------
  5. * Ant doesn't search for the buildfile anymore, unless you use the new
  6. -find argument.
  7. * <perforce> has been replaced by a number of new tasks.
  8. Other changes:
  9. --------------
  10. * A GUI Frontend: Antidote
  11. * New tasks: stylebook, propertyfile, depend, antlr, telnet, csc,
  12. ilasm, transform, javah, several clearcase tasks
  13. * Added output attribute to <java>.
  14. * Added nested prefixedfileset element to <war>
  15. * Changed <sql> so that printing is at the task level rather than
  16. the statement level.
  17. * javadoc task will pass -d flag to any doclet if the destDir attribute is
  18. given. If the doclet does not accept the -d flag then omit the destdir
  19. attribute.
  20. * <cab> can work on non-Windows platforms with the help of libcabinet.
  21. See http://trill.cis.fordham.edu/~barbacha/cabinet_library/.
  22. * <ftp> now supports passive mode.
  23. * New <mapper> data type that can be used to get influence on the
  24. target files for some tasks like <copy> or enable new types of tasks
  25. like <transform>.
  26. * <execon> provides more control over the command line now, the names
  27. of the source files are no longer required to be at the end of the
  28. command.
  29. * Style tasks will now support TraX compliant XSL processors if one is present
  30. in your classpath.
  31. * Ant now prints a warning when an attempt is made to use a property which has
  32. not been set. Any build files which rely on non-set properties being passed
  33. through untranslated will now break.
  34. * Added a failonerror to the javac task. If set to false, the build will
  35. continue even if there are compilation errors.
  36. * Added nested format elements to the tstamp task allowing additional time
  37. formats to be defined for arbitrary properties.
  38. * Added classpath attribute and nested classpath element to <property>
  39. to make the resource attribute more powerful.
  40. Fixed bugs:
  41. -----------
  42. * <signjar> doesn't use deprectated methods anymore.
  43. * javadoc's failonerror attribute works again
  44. * Changed <sql> task so that printing result sets works on Oracle
  45. * Changes to ddcreator and ejbc helper to respect the descriptor hierarchy
  46. keppgenerated in ejbc can now be turned off
  47. * ejbjar now correctly ignores <ejb-ref> elements in the deployment descriptor.
  48. CMP files are included by parsing the weblogic deployment descriptor rather
  49. than relying on the naming convention used in ant 1.2
  50. Include super classes and super interfaces into the generated ejb jar files
  51. * <vssget> now correctly deals with spaces in arguments
  52. * <jar> fails early if a given manifest file doesn't exist
  53. * <rmic> doesn't search for the _Skel file anymore when stubversion is
  54. set to 1.2.
  55. * <rmic> uses the the same classpath to verify a class can be rmic'd
  56. as it passes to the compiler.
  57. * org.apache.tools.mail.MailMessage (and therefore <mail>) can now
  58. handle SMTP servers sending multi line responses.
  59. * nested <classpath> elements of <taskdef> now work for <taskdef>s not
  60. nested into <target> as well.
  61. Changes from Ant 1.1 to Ant 1.2
  62. ===============================
  63. Changes that could break older environments:
  64. --------------------------------------------
  65. * Semantics of <property> has changed again in the hope to be more
  66. intuitive. ${} expansion now happens at runtime and <property> tags
  67. living inside of targets only take effect if they are visited at
  68. runtime.
  69. As a side effect of this change, task's attributes get set at runtime
  70. not at parser time as well, which might change the results of
  71. <script>s or other custom tasks that reference other tasks by their id
  72. attribute.
  73. * copying of support files in <javac> has been removed - as well as
  74. the filtering attribute.
  75. * the <expand> and <keysubst> tasks have been removed.
  76. * the ignore and items attributes of directory based tasks have been removed.
  77. * the command line switches _not_ starting with - have been removed.
  78. * Path and EnumeratedAttribute have been moved from
  79. org.apache.tools.ant to org.apache.tools.ant.types.
  80. * the class attributes of <available>, <java>, <rmic> and <taskdef>
  81. have been removed.
  82. * the src attribute of <chmod> has been removed.
  83. * <patch> and <javadoc> have lost some of their attributes.
  84. * <java> and <cvs> have lost some undocumented attributes.
  85. * the Unix antRun script would search for command.sh in the directory
  86. it changed to and invoke this instead of command if present. This
  87. behavior has been dropped.
  88. * <ejbjar> task syntax has been changed significantly
  89. * <exec> is no longer implemented by org.apache.tool.ant.taskdefs.Exec.
  90. Custom tasks that rely on Project.createTask("exec") to return an
  91. instance of this class are going to fail.
  92. * nested <include> and <exclude> elements expect the value of their
  93. name attribute to be a single pattern, they don't accept multiple
  94. patterns anymore. Split them into multiple elements of the same type.
  95. * <delete dir="somedir" /> will now delete the directory itself as
  96. well as all included files. If you just want to clean out the
  97. directory and keep the empty one, use a nested fileset.
  98. Other changes:
  99. --------------
  100. * New tasks: antstructure, cab, execon, fail, ftp, genkey, jlink,
  101. junit, sql, javacc, jjtree, starteam, war, unwar, uptodate,
  102. native2ascii, copy, move, mparse.
  103. * copydir, copyfile, deltree and rename are now deprecated. They
  104. should be replaced with the new copy, delete and move tasks.
  105. * <java> uses a ClassLoader of its own in no-fork mode if a classpath is
  106. specified.
  107. * <style> will create the necessary target directories and reprocess
  108. all files if the stylesheet changes.
  109. * New data types fileset and patternset - expected to get a broader use.
  110. They, as well as PATH like structures, can now be defined on a global
  111. level and later be referenced by their id attribute.
  112. * You can specify environment variables to <exec>.
  113. * <get> can check whether a remote file is actually newer than a local
  114. copy before it starts a download (HTTP only).
  115. * Added a -logger option to allow the class which performs logging to be
  116. specified on the command line.
  117. * Added a -emacs option to tell the logger to leave out taskname adornments
  118. on log output.
  119. * <chmod> works on all files in parallel and supports multiple filesets.
  120. * <replace> can now use tokens and/or values that cross line boundaries.
  121. * build.compiler supports now jvc as well.
  122. * project specific help can now be obtained with the -projecthelp option.
  123. * Added a -debug option to make -verbose less verbose (and more useful)
  124. * Ant will now search for a file named build.xml in the parent directory
  125. and above (towards the root of the filesystem) if you didn't specify
  126. -buildfile and there is no build.xml in the current directory.
  127. * <echo> can now write to a file and accepts nested text.
  128. Fixed bugs:
  129. -----------
  130. * <chmod> didn't work when used as a directory based task.
  131. * Path, Available, Property didn't resolve relative filenames with
  132. respect to the Project's basedir.
  133. * Project didn't interpret the basedir attribute correctly in all
  134. cases.
  135. * Nested <src> in <javac> caused NullPointerException.
  136. * Corrupt Zip- and Jar-files ar now deleted if the task fails.
  137. * many more fixes we've forgotten to document here ...
